In the past few years, some requirements on carbon footprint and carbon labelling was implement in western countries. Although Malaysia does not have requirements on these, it doesn't mean that local corporations will not affected. If local corporations export to western countries, they still need to declare their carbon footprint. Besides that, service industry also emphasizes on low carbon emission, i.e. Prince Hotel & Residence, the first low carbon five star hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Feed-In-Tariff was introduced in Malaysia as a step to achieve the target of reduction 40% carbon footprint by year 2020. Germany, as a successful example in Feed-In-Tariff, was implement this since year 1991. Other than encourages and rewards, it should be "carrot and stick", i.e. carbon tax, to achieve the goal of reduce carbon footprint.
